Radha’s daughter Tulasi replaces Samantha

It’s the news that has shocked tinsel town. Samantha who walked out of Mani Ratnam’s Kadal has now confirmed her status on the project. Soon after she made her stand clear, Mani wanted someone young to fill up the role of a 15 year old character.

Kadal, a romantic offering set in the backdrop of the Southern coasts has composer AR Rahmanscoring the music with yesteryear actor Karthik’s son Gautham making his debut onscreen. Back in September 2011 there was news of  Radha’s daughter Tulasi playing the lead opposite Karthik’s son. Coincidentally, the Bharathiraja classic Alaigal Oyivathillai had Radha making her debut film opposite Karthik. Now the baton has passed to their younger generation. News is that Mani has fallen back to his first choice Tulasi, who is studying in Class 9. Tulasi and her parents boarded their Chennai flight exclusively to meet Kadal director Mani, and soon she was confirmed for the lead role. The veteran director felt she was perfect for a 15-year-old girl than Samantha and plans to hold a workshop for young Thulasi soon.

Samantha on the other hand confirmed her walk out saying, “Been pretty sick for a while now can’t wait to get better. Unfortunately, cause of this I have had to opt out of Mani sirs film. My loss… But had to do it.. Cause my being sick left my dates in a huge mess. Also my other films are 60 % complete while I have not yet shot for Mani sirs film. So I guess this had to happen.” Shooting for Mani’s Kadal will resume in Kerala this July as the first drops of monsoon welcome actors Gautham and Tulasi to the sets.

Spice Mi-410 Android SmartphoneAlthough Spice has been in the mobile game a long time now, and has only recently entered the Smartphone market, they haven't really outshined the competition. Their Mi-310 was not too bad though, but it's their upgrade i.e. the Mi-410 that's got the industry going ga-ga. So, I give you the Spice Mi-410 that sports a high power processor and large screen, but just so you know, technically, Spice had nothing to do with manufacturing the phone other than fixing their name on it. Beneath the Spice branding, its actually Huawei’s i9000 IDEOS X6, that’s sold in the West and Far East. But, is this enough to lure prospective buyers away from other seasoned brands? Let's find out. Form Factor The Mi-410 feels like a slab of metal in your hand. The design is very monolithic and is devoid of any curves or other design elements which does not make it very ergonomic. The 4.1-inch capacitive touch screen somewhat makes up for it though with a very decent resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The screen is not fitted with Gorilla Glass, but isn’t very prone to scratches either. Android-centric touch sensitive buttons for Return, Options, Home and Search are located under the display. The Mi-410 is equipped with a pair of speakers located at the bottom on either sides of the device. By doing this, the sound is not muted when you place the phone on the table, but unfortunately it could be hampered if you hold it in your hand, as the tendency is to obviously hold a phone from the bottom when you're on speakerphone. There’s also a front-facing VGA camera, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor beside the earpiece. Slim design and sturdy build The power button is placed on the left and the volume rocker is on the right. While it's easy to control the volume with your thumb, it's a real pain when you have to lock/unlock the phone. The problem is that the power button does not have a groove nor is it raised and sits flush with the bezel so it’s hard to tell exactly where it is without looking. It should have been placed on the top beside the 3.5mm headphone jack. At the bottom we have a mini-HDMI and micro-USB port. The HDMI-out is a great addition, especially when you consider the price. Screen is decently bright but only indoors The 5.0MP camera is slightly raised above the body of the phone and without a lens protector it's prone to scratches. The Mi-410 is also capable of capturing 720p videos at 30fps, another first for a sub-15K phone. While most of the body is made of plastic, the battery cover is metal. Along with the battery, the phone feels a bit heavy in your pocket at 143g, and a bit slippery as well due to the metal back. Overall, the Mi-410 has a pretty good build quality and by no means feels like a cheap phone that you would be ashamed to flaunt in public. At first, it feels a bit laggy, but a quick install of Launcher Pro fixes everything. Whether you're swiping through the home screen or scrolling through the menu, the motion feels fluid and snappy. Even the animations are butter smooth, and why not! After all, there’s a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU with an Adreno 205 GPU beating inside. Spice (or Huawei to be precise) has taken some cues from HTC and included an LED indicator in the earpiece. It blinks green when you get an alert and red when the battery is low. Navigation is quick and fluid The Mi-410 also has three scene modes which are preset themes with different widgets like Travel, Work, etc just like in Sense UI. The lock screen also gives you the option for accessing the Phonebook, Contacts or Messages directly without having to unlock the phone first, another feature seen in the latest version of Sense UI. The screen has decent brightness and colors for indoor use, but outdoors everything goes for a toss. Even at maximum brightness, you can barely make out what's on the screen. Also, when the screen gets too greasy (which happens very quickly), it's not very responsive. Many times I found myself struggling to unlock the screen. The touch sensitive buttons work fine without much problem. Boot up time may appear to be quick, but it still takes some time for all the widgets to load. Media The default video player will only playback AVI, MP4 and 3GP files. It won’t even detect any other file formats. There are two applications, Videos and Video Portal. While, Videos simply lists the available videos without any options to group them, Video Portal does a better job in presenting your videos and also gives you access to YouTube. The default player is quite strict when it comes to playing back AVI, as I noticed some SD videos would not get detected. Videos look good, but the colors aren't very vibrant Moboplayer (which is free to download) helps you read more file formats like MOV, FLV and MKV, but for some reason we couldn’t get 720p MKV files to play smoothly or AVI (encoded with Xvid) for that matter. You’d think a phone with a 1GHz CPU would just breeze through this test, but sadly it doesn't. I also encountered a very strange bug with the media player. If you try to play a full HD AVI file in any player, the audio starts playing, but there's no way to stop it. I tried shutting the player by killing the process via the settings as well but the audio continued to play. If you own this phone, do not attempt to do this, you have been warned. Audio playback is decent and the speakers are loud enough to be heard even when travelling. Although the Huawei X6 packs a Dolby sound enhancement feature, the Mi-410 does not have this. The audio quality with the stock earphones is average but it gets better if you use good IEMs like the EP-630s. The stock music player doesn't have any equalizer presets either for enhancing the sound. Other multimedia apps include FM Radio which worked well even when travelling and MuVee video editor for editing MP4 and 3gp files. Here, you have options to trim, fade in/out, join a video or add text to it, all of which are very basic but simple to use.

Spice announces new Stellar Android series, 5-inch, dual-core at Rs. 12,000

Spice, has announced their first ever range of ‘Secure Android’ smartphones in Delhi. This new range of smartphones is launched under the name ‘Spice Stellar’ and will come with 3 products with varied screen sizes – 3.5 inch, 4-inch and 5-inch. The Stellar range offers ‘Security’, as the unique proposition, which promises protection against virus/data loss/theft/financial security for customers. Present at the launch were Mr. Kunal Ahooja, Global Head-devices S Mobility Limited and Mr. Calvin Cai, GM-Overseas Business Development and Partnership, NQ Mobile. The first one, Spice Stellar has been launched while the other two, the Spice Stellar Horizon and the Spice Stellar Craze will be launching later this month. 

Spice Stellar, launched today, runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). It runs on a 1GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and has a 4.0-inch touchscreen, which is the first of its kind in this price range. The smartphone also boasts of a 2000 mAh battery which provides a backup that lasts up to 7 hours of talk time and up to 120 hours standby. Currently, smartphones run on fast processors and have a lot of applications around them but do not have long lasting batteries to support them. The handset also packs in a 5 megapixel autofocus shooter, along with a front camera to support video calls. Given the features, the latest handset from Spice’s smartphone stable will be available at a price tag of Rs. 9,999.  

The Stellar, the Craze and the Horizon

Coming soon will be the Spice Stellar Horizon, which will have a 5-inch touchscreen bundled with Android 4.0 ICS. It packs in a 1 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a dedicated 300 MHz GPU for the game heads. It possesses a 5MP auto focus camera with a 0.3MP front camera supporting video calling. Other key features, include Dual-Sim capability, GPS/ AGPS, Wi- Fi Tethering and a big battery life amongst others. The Spice Stellar Horizon will be available at a price of Rs. 11,999 and will hit the retail market by the end of this month. 

The other handset that will be coming soon is the Spice Stellar Craze that offers a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 800 MHz processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is upgradable to Android 4.0 ICS. The Spice Stellar Craze will be hitting the retail market by end of this month and will be available at a price of Rs. 6,499.   

To address mobile data security concerns, Spice has entered into an association with NQ Mobile, one of the leaders in mobile security solutions space with its headquarters co-located in China & USA and operating in more than 150 countries, to provide security software solutions in all Android devices of Spice. The solution is very critical in today’s environment, since there are numerous threats in terms of malwares, which can steal user’s data, banking information, or simply make the phone sluggish.

Announced!

The solutions offered will include an Antivirus that will provide real-time protection from malicious Internet threats and also offers flexibility for the user to set a schedule for regular scans of data in the device as well as SD card. Also in the security stable is a Network Manager giving access to data like Traffic, setting monthly data transfer limit. Other features, include Anti-Theft and Vault- privacy lock for following apps like, Photos, Videos, SMS and Call Logs & Secret Contacts. The users can update the virus/malware database for a period of six months absolutely free. The Spice Stellar comes packed with 1 year of free data plan as well. 

S Mobility has entered into partnership with Aircel, one of the 3G telecom operators in the country for its Spice Stellar series of devices.  As part of this partnership the consumer is eligible for 100 MB data free per month for a period of 1 year without any additional conditions. The handsets will be available across India through more than 50,000 retail points, including the 750+ Spice HotSpot retail network. 

Aditya 369 Sequal – Aditya 999 with Balakrishna and Anushka

Aditya 369 the superhit film of Balakrishna which was released in 1991 is going to have a sequel with the Same Hero and the same Director.

Balakrishna will be playing the Male Lead and Anushka is being roped in to play the Female lead. The Name of the sequel is going to be “Aditya 999″ The movie will be directed by “Singeetham Srinivasa Rao” this 80 year old Director was the person to direct the original version too.

Producer For Aditya 999 will be ” Konda Krishnam Raju”. Earlier Anushka and Balakrishna had teamed up for Okka Magadu and this is going to be the second movie they will be playing together. With the kind of hit Aditya 369 had created in those days it will surely be a hit in the sequel is what the Director and Producer are thinking.

Sony Ericsson has launched a new Android smartphone with Walkman

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a new Android smartphone with Walkman branding that touts unique music-centric features.

Dubbed the Live with Walkman, the handset will feature a dedicated Walkman button for quick access to your music.

But, it’s different from previous Walkman-branded devices in that it also features deep Facebook integration for music sharing and discovering.

The Live with Walkman will sport a 3.2-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display powered by a single-core 1GHz processor with 380MB of RAM.

It will have a front-facing VGA camera for Skype video calling, a 5-megapixel rear-facing auto-focus camera capable of 720p HD video recording, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, DLNA, and Sony’s xLOUD system for enhanced audio output.

Additionally, the handset will have deep integration with Sony’s Qriocity for music content. However, it’s interesting to note that the press image above shows the device playing music through Spotify, which makes us wonder whether the music service would also come preloaded.

The Live with Walkman will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is expected to arrive later this fall, possibly in October. It will be available worldwide in select markets, but no pricing information has been disclosed yet.

Nokia Asha 311, 306 and 305 launched- Asha Series Touchscreen phon

Nokia has launched three new touch phones which belongs to Asha series. Dubbed as Asha 31, Asha 305 and Asha 306, these phones are targeted for youth, young people who want to stay connected at cheaper price.

First of all, Nokia Asha 311 is the higher range feature phone that comes with 1 Ghz processor, 3 inch 240 x 320 pixels capacitive polarized display for better viewing in sunlight, 3.2 megapixel camera, music player, video player, FM Radio, 256MB of internal storage and up to 32GB of expandable memory. It comes with 3G support, WiFi 802.1 b/g/n, Bluetooth, microUSB and 1100 mAh battery.

It runs on S40 Asha OS with Swipe interface and comes with Facebook, Twitter, Social Apps, and pre-loaded Angry Bird, 40 Free EA games.

Nokia Asha 311 will be available for 92 Euros.

Next is Asha 306, this phone features a 3 inch resistive display, 2 MP camera, FM Radio, music player, video player, 3.5 mm jack, and up to 32 GB of expandable memory support. It comes with connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE network, microUSB and WAP.

Nokia Asha 305 is same as 306. The main difference in these phones are that 305 supports dual SIM and lacks Wifi connectivity.

Nokia Asha 306 has been priced at 68 Euros while Asha 305 will be sell for 63 Euros.
